Karnataka Ex-CMs HD Kumaraswamy, Bommai Resign As MLAs After Lok Sabha Entry

The recent Lok Sabha elections saw a total of four MLAs including Basavaraj Bommai and HD Kumaraswamy from Karnataka securing MP seats.

In the wake of their victory in the recently concluded Lok Sabha Elections 2024, Karnataka leaders H.D. Kumaraswamy of the Janata Dal (Secular) and Basavaraj Bommai of the Bharatiya Janata Party have resigned from their positions as Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs).

H.D. Kumaraswamy, a former Chief Minister and prominent JD(S) leader, served as the MLA for the Channapatna constituency. Basavaraj Bommai, also a former Chief Minister, represented the Shiggaon Assembly constituency. 

The recent Lok Sabha elections saw a total of four MLAs from Karnataka securing MP seats. As the notification of successful candidates in the Lok Sabha elections was issued on Thursday, the newly elected members have less than two weeks to submit their resignations from the state Assembly.

In addition to Kumaraswamy and Bommai, Congress MLA for Sandur, E. Tukaram, and the Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council, Kota Srinivas Poojary, are also expected to tender their resignations soon.

HD Kumaraswamy Resigns As MLA

Union Minister and JD(S) MP H.D. Kumaraswamy submitted his resignation as an MLA. He has been elected as an MP from Mandya in the recently held Lok Sabha elections.

Ahead of the resignation, JD(S) MP and Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy held a roadshow in Bengaluru on Friday. He said, "Today, voluntarily people came to receive me with a lot of affection. My strength is our people. I will work not just for the development of Karnataka, but the entire country... People of Karnataka have given a befitting reply to Congress..."

On Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswany's first visit to Karnataka after being sworn in as Union Minister, JD(S) Youth Wing President Nikhil Kumaraswamy said, "After HD Kumaraswamy became the Union Minister, everybody has gathered in huge numbers to meet him...PM Modi has given one of the challenging portfolios to him..."
 

Basavaraj Bommai Resigns As Shiggaon MLA
