BJP Stages Protest At Karnataka Assembly Against Congress's 'Failure' To Fulfil 'Five Guarantees'

The BJP staged a protest at the Karnataka Assembly against the Congress over its alleged failure to fulfil the five poll guarantees that it had assured the people of the state before the election.

Karnataka BJP staged a protest on the state Assembly premises against the Congress over its alleged failure to fulfil the five poll promises that it had made during the campaign. The protests in the lower house during the pre-lunch session led to its adjournment twice. Former Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa, BJP state president Nalin Kumar Kateel, and BJP MP D V Sadananda Gowda joined hundreds of BJP workers at Bangalore's Freedom Park to protest against the government, reported news agency PTI.

Yediyurappa launched an attack on Congress for allegedly 'misleading' the people through their five guarantees. While talking to the media, he said, "Our agitation is against the failure of fulfilling the five guarantees. We are also opposing the government's stand to withdraw the anti-conversion and anti-cow slaughter laws, which our government had introduced in the past."

He then backed JD(S) leader and former Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy's allegation of "transfer business", referring to alleged corruption in the state. He said, "Whatever Kumaraswamy has said is absolutely true and I support his statement. We will fight together in future." Kumaraswamy alleged that the state government has introduced a new tax system named "YST Tax (Yathindra Siddaramaiah Tax)," referring to Siddaramaiah's son Yathindra, a former MLA who vacated his Varuna seat for his father in the 2023 polls.

Earlier in the day, BJP leaders stormed the well of the House and raised slogans against the ruling party over the alleged delay in implementing the five guarantees.

Former CM and BJP leader Basavaraj Bommai demanded acceptance of the adjournment motion and discussion on the issue instead of the question hour. Following this, BJP MLA R Ashoka accused the government of "cheating" people in the name of five guarantees.

Responding to the allegations, Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar made a jibe at the BJP, saying that the saffron party was unable to "tolerate the success" of the "five guarantees". He said, "Let the Question Hour happen. Then we will hear their [BJP's] 'Pearls of Wisdom'." The Deputy CM then asked whether the BJP ever fulfilled its promise of "depositing Rs 15 lakh in everyone's bank account and bringing back black money parked overseas" or not. After hitting out at BJP, he said, "We are committed to our promises and we will fulfil them."

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, too, appealed to the BJP to give up what it called 'adamant posture', reported PTI.
