Bengaluru water crisis: The Karnataka Water Supply and Sewerage Board also imposed a fine of Rs 5000 for any violation of the order.

Karnataka Water Supply and Sewerage Board banned the use of drinking water for gardening, construction, car wash, road maintenance and water fountains amid a heightened water crisis in Bengaluru. The Board also imposed a fine of Rs 5000 for any violation of the order.

According to ANI, Karnataka Water Supply and Sewerage Board bans usage of drinking water for car washing, gardening, construction, water fountains and road construction and maintenance. It also imposes a fine of Rs 5000, if the order is violated.

After a monsoon failure in September of the previous year, the state declared a drought in 195 taluks, including areas of Bengaluru. Subsequently, the number rose to 216 out of 236 taluks in Karnataka, encompassing Mandya and Mysuru districts, which are crucial water sources for Bengaluru.

In this context, the BJP also warned of staging a protest if the crisis persisted unresolved for a week. Earlier, a resident Suresh talking to ANI said, "For 6 months, this area has not received water from the corporation. They have given us Cauvery connections, which would have benefitted us. We have to book 2-3 days in advance for water. We have to pay Rs. 1600-2000 for one water tanker."

"We have to buy water, we have no other source of water... We do not have water even to drink. In the upcoming summers, we would have to face a lot of difficulties... We have pipes of Cauvery connections, but there is no water," he said.
