Iftar for unity in Bengaluru: The group members decided to come up with a constructive idea to build bonhomie after fruit stalls belonging to Muslims were vandalised in Dharwad
New Delhi: Amid soaring temperatures, in view to build a bonhomie relationship among people with the concept of 'beat the heat', an informal group -- Gifting Sunnah -- has distributed watermelons in Bengaluru for the last 10 days.
Naming their campaign 'Iftar for Unity', the group has distributed watermelons among the pushcart vendors, small shops, migrant & daily wage labourers and those in need on Ram Navami (April 10), a Times of India report said.
The group members decided to come up with a constructive idea to build bonhomie after fruit stalls belonging to Muslims were vandalised in Dharwad. "The spike in hatred and divisive activities inspired us to come up with this campaign. we wanted those in need to enjoy the fruits and join us in the spirit of brotherhood," Zahoor Ahmed Kazi, a member of the group, told the Times of India. He said they are a group of 15-20 people, who distributed 120 watermelons across the city.
Not only watermelons, but the group has also started to distribute other essentials like snacks, packaged juice and other fruits among people across Bengaluru, said another group member, Md Amer.
Amer also said that to bring people from different communities together, they have been extending the campaign by adding more activities like hosting iftar parties for people of various communities.
