Srinagar hospital firing: another cop dies

Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir) [India] Feb.06 (ANI): Another Jammu and Kashmir policeman died here after he was critically injured in the firing incident when a detainee escaped from a Srinagar hospital on Tuesday.

In the incident, one cop has already been killed when the prisoner snatched weapons from a police party, who was accompanying him and five other jail inmates to the hospital for a medical checkup, and fired at them.

"Six detainees were being brought from Central Jail. One of them snatched weapons from police and fired at the protection party. The prisoner's name is Abu Hanzulla alias Naveed Jatt," Srinagar Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Imtiaz Ismail Parray told media.

Though the police managed to nab the five prisoners, Hanzulla managed to flee away from the spot. He was arrested a few months ago from Shopian district by the army and police. (ANI)
