President Mukherjee distributes free LPG connections under PMUY at Jangipur
Jangipur (West Bengal) [India], July 15 (ANI): President Pranab Mukherjee on Saturday distributed free LPG connections to 11 women under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) at Jangipur in Murshidabad district of West Bengal in the presence of Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
With this, the Central Government has distributed 2.5 crore LPG connections under PMUY among the poor and marginalised households across the country since its launch.
Abhijit Mukherjee, MP (Lok Sabha) and Shri Ranjan Mahapatra, Executive Director, Indian Oil, Kolkata were also present at the occasion.
Earlier, marking fifty percent completion of the targets of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Ujjwala Yojana, Pradhan said that these are the days of prosperity for the Indian Government and Indian women that such schemes are being announced.
This programme is part of Prime Minister Modi's mission to provide "clean fuel better life" to all the BPL families.
Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana is an ambitious social welfare scheme of Prime Minister Modi-led Government launched on May 1, 2016 from Ballia in Uttar Pradesh.
Under this scheme, the government aims to provide LPG connections to BPL households in the country. The scheme is aimed at replacing the unclean cooking fuels mostly used in the rural India with the clean and more efficient LPG.
The government has set a target of five crore LPG connections to be distributed to the BPL households across the country under the scheme. (ANI)
