Popular Front of India protests Jharkhand's ban

New Delhi [India], Feb 23 (ANI): A day after the Jharkhand Government banned the Popular Front of India (PFI) in the state, the party workers on Friday staged a massive protest outside the Jharkhand Bhavan in Delhi.

The PFI was banned for allegedly spreading anarchy in the state.

"From last six months, the PFI has come to a limelight as we providing legal support to the victims of mob lynching and cow vigilante in the state. We fight against the fringe elements those try to tarnish the social fabric of our society. Since we have been fighting those fringes the state government has implemented a ban on our party," a party worker told ANI.

Earlier on Thursday, the Jharkhand police raided a training centre of the PFI in Pakur district of the state.

The police also seized the party's banners, stamps and other documents.

The PFI, which was banned under Section 16 of the Criminal Law Amendment Act, 1908, is an extremist and militant Islamic fundamentalist organisation in India formed as a successor to the National Development Front (NDF) in 2006.(ANI)
