No decision on NDA vice presidential candidate yet

New Delhi [India], Jul 16 (ANI): The meeting of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi ended without naming their Vice Presidential candidate for the upcoming elections, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar said on Sunday.

"In this meeting, we held discussions on Presidential elections and the upcoming monsoon session, however, no discussion on Vice President took place," Kumar said.

Kumar said Prime Minister Narendra Modi hoped that the upcoming Parliament session proves to be fruitful and all the Opposition parties continue to cooperate.

"While discussing about the upcoming session, the Prime Minister wished the becomes fruitful and hoped that every party cooperate, especially on August 9 2017, which is significant day as this was the day when Quit India movement was launched," Kumar said.

Meanwhile, the Congress-led Opposition's Vice Presidential candidate Gopal Krishna Gandhi will file his nomination on July 18.

Earlier today, ongress president Sonia Gandhi on Sunday urged the leaders of the opposition parties to extend their support to Meria Kumar and Gopal Krishna Gandhi for the Presidential and the Vice-Presidential elections.

Acknowledging that the numbers are stacked against them in the elections, Sonia said it must be ensured that "best servants of India stand at the helm and steer our society through the crisis that has beset our country today."

"In these contests, the numbers may be against us. But the battle must be fought and fought hard. We cannot and must not let India be hostage to those who wish to impose upon it a narrow-minded, divisive and communal vision," Sonia said.

"We must stand more aware than ever of who we are, what we fought for in our Independence struggle and what future we want for ourselves. We must have confidence in the values we believe in," she added. (ANI)
