Ghaziabad building collapse: 1 dead, 7 rescued, probe ordered

Ghaziabad [India], Jul 22 (ANI): The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team has so far rescued seven people from the debris of the building which collapsed in Ghaziabad's Missal Gadi on Sunday afternoon.

The security personnel have also recovered one body from the site.

Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed the District Magistrate and the Senior Superintendent of Police, Ghaziabad to visit the site and lodge an FIR in the connection.

"As soon as we received the information, we responded swiftly. Rescue operations are being carried out. We have rescued seven people out of whom one died and six are in hospital. Once rescue operation are completed we will investigate who are responsible for it" said, IG law and order Ghaziabad

Ritu Maheshwari, District Megistrate, Ghaziabad told ANI, that Prima facie, it appears that the building collapsed because of the poor quality material being used in the construction.

"Prima facie, there seems to be issues with quality of the building. A magisterial inquiry has been ordered. Seven people have been rescued and sent to hospital. There is no casualty as of now. Rescue ops are underway," Maheshwari said.

Sanjay Kumar DG, NDRF told ANI, that three more people are feared trapped under the rubble.

"Four teams are working on the collapse site, it's a congested area but we have portable equipment which helped us. Possibilities are that three more people are trapped inside, our aim is to complete the rescue operation soon and if it stretches till night we're prepared for that too," Kumar said.

The five-storey under-construction building collapsed near Missal Gadi in Ghaziabad earlier on Sunday afternoon.

A few days back, at least nine people were killed after two under construction buildings, in Greater Noida's Shah Beri village collapsed. (ANI)
