Congress, opposition parties will defeat BJP in 2019: Rahul

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], June 12 (ANI): Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday said that Congress and other opposition parties will defeat the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at the Centre in the 2019 general elections.

Addressing a rally in Mumbai, Rahul said that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will be wiped out in the upcoming Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh assembly elections.

"They (BJP) has recently lost in Karnataka and has barely saved themselves in Gujarat. They will be wiped out in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh and Congress and other opposition parties will defeat them in the General Elections of 2019," said the Congress president.

Rahul also took a jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi by saying that he does not respect his 'guru' and senior BJP leader L. K. Advani.

"LK Advani has been the guru of Prime Minister Modi, but I have seen in events that PM Modi does not even respect his guru. Today I feel very sad for Advani ji. The Congress party has given him more respect than Modi Ji," he added.

Rahul also claimed that it's his party which can defeat the ideology of the BJP and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).

He said, "A senior politician told me that he has been fighting against the Congress for the past 50 years and it is after 50 years that he realised that if there is any party which can keep the country safe it is the Congress. Only Congress can defeat the ideology of BJP and RSS."

This is Rahul's first visit to Maharashtra after taking over as Congress chief. (ANI)
