BJP to hold rallies to connect with backwards: Ananth Kumar

New Delhi [India], August 7 (ANI): Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Ananth Kumar on Tuesday said that the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) will hold scores of rallies, from August 15 to August 30, to give an account to people about the policies and schemes they have introduced for the development of the backward classes since 2014.

Kumar also added that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-government will celebrate 'Samajik Nyay Saptah' from August 1 to August 9 every year. The programme will highlight the moves undertaken by the Centre to curb the menaces such as social discrimination and violence against the backward classes.

"During the meeting, PM Modi said that the BJP will celebrate 'Samajik Nyay Diwas' every year, from August 15 to August 30. These two weeks will talk about the initiatives undertaken by the government for the development of the Backward classes and poor," he said.

The decision from the PM Modi came just a day after the Parliament passed an SC/ST Atrocity Law and made efforts to convert National Commission for Backward Classes (NCBC) an autonomous body.

Elaborating further on the BJP's achievement, Kumar stated, "Giving nod for restoring the SC/ST Atrocity Law in the lower house is one of the historic decisions taken by the party. We thank PM Modi for the success. If you remember, PM Modi in his first meeting in 2014 had announced that the government's main focus will be on easing the lives of backward classes and poor. Today, we can say confidently say that we have accomplished the goal," he said.

The Lok Sabha, on Monday, unanimously passed the law with provisions for stricter guidelines, like no bail for anyone accused of atrocities on SC/STs and non-requirement of an inquiry for registering a criminal case and beginning a probe.

Opposition leaders recently have also urged the government to promulgate a law that can provide reservation to the upper caste poor on the basis of economic conditions. (ANI)
