Tricolour flag (green, yellow and red),representing the Indian Independence movement, also known as Vande Mataram flag was created after the partition of Bengal in 1905. It had eight white lotuses on the upper green band which represented the eight provinces. It had a sun and a crescent on the bottom red band and ‘Vande Mataram’ was written in Hindi on the yellow band.
