'Intoxicating Aroma, Sunshine': Suella Braverman Recalls Early Memories With Mother In India At Ideas Of India 3.0

Speaking at ABP Network's Ideas of India Summit, the Tory MP said that her mother and grandmother loved India, and her grandmother was a devotee of Krishna.

Ideas Of India 2024: Former UK Home Secretary Suella Braverman on Saturday recalled her earliest memories of India as a child and said that when she was three- years -old, her mother and grandmother took her on a grand tour of India. Braverman was present at ABP Network's Ideas of India Summit to speak on 'The World in Ferment: Closing Borders, Brutal Wars'. In her opening remarks at the event, Braverman said that the oasis of calm and serenity with the intoxicating aroma, the mystery of the spiritual, and the warm Indian sunshine encapsulate her first vision of India. She further stated that her mother and grandmother loved India, and her grandmother was a devotee of Krishna.

Further elaborating on her earliest memories of India, the UK MP said she can recall her memories sitting with her grandmother. She further stated that, unlike her mother and grandmother, she is not brave enough to take her three-year-old daughter on a grand tour of any country.

"For me, some of my earliest memories personally of India too. When I was three, my mother and granny went on a grand tour to India because they loved India, and they took me along for six weeks. They were very brave. I have a three-year-old daughter, and I don't think I will take her on a grand tour of any country right now. We traveled in the 1980s, the length and breadth of India from Kolkata to Kanyakumari. And for me, one of the earliest memories of life itself was when I was sitting as a young child, a three-year-old, with my Granny. Her name was Tulsi; she was a Krishna devotee at the temple in Vrindavan. The oasis of calm and serenity with the intoxicating aroma, the mystery of the spiritual, and the buzz of activity in the background, and the warm Indian sunshine encapsulate what my first vision of India was," Braverman said.
