'Rich People Live Longer': Nobel Laureate Venki Ramakrishnan
Venki Ramakrishnan says a better lifestyle leads to increased longevity. "Historically, people have improved economics and education before birthrates fell... If the economy of the states improves, they will inevitably follow the demographic trend. A lot of it also has to do with women empowerment. When women get educated and economically independent, they are less reluctant to be vessels for popping out children."
He agrees that "Rich people live longer". He says: "It's absolutely true... Even in Britain the richest 10% live about 10 years more than the poorest 10%. In the US, it is about 15 years. It's actually worse. If you look at healthy years, the difference is almost double. So instead of 10 years, it is 20 years is the difference in healthy lives and in the US it might be close to 30 years.
