Danger Has Been Averted, Will Take Call On Lifting More Curbs In Delhi: Satyendar Jain On Covid Situation

Jain said that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government has written to Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal to ease the weekend curfew imposed in Delhi.

New Delhi: Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain on Friday said the experts had predicted that the national capital would report one lakh daily Covid-19 infections but that danger has been averted.

Jain said that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government has written to Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal to ease the weekend curfew imposed in Delhi.

“We will take call on lifting more curbs within three to four days,” he added, PTI reported.

Jain said Delhi is expected to record 10,500 Covid-19 cases with a positivity rate of 17 to 18 percent.

“Of the 43 fatalities recorded on Thursday, Covid-19 was the primary cause in only three,” he added.

Jain had earlier on Thursday said that the Covid-19 third wave in Delhi was over but warned that despite a fall they were still in “danger zone”.

“Seems like the peak of Covid-19 third wave has gone past in Delhi, after a record single-day rise of 28K cases, 30% positivity rate,” Jain said.

“The Covid wave peak in Delhi may be gone, but we still cannot say we are out of the danger zone. We need to watch trends,” he added.

Chief Arvind Kejriwal had earlier sent a recommendation to the Lieutenant Governor to end the weekend curfew in Delhi.

Kejriwal had in the proposal also asked to remove the odd-even system in the markets and to allow the private offices to operate at 50 percent capacity.

Earlier on Thursday, Delhi reported 12,306 fresh Covid-19 cases and 43 more fatalities, while the positivity rate dipped to 21.48 percent, according to data shared by the city health department.

This is the highest number of deaths reported in a day since June 10, 2021, when 44 fatalities were recorded.

As many as 396 people have succumbed to coronavirus in the national capital so far in January.

Delhi had earlier on Wednesday logged 13,785 Covid-19 cases and 35 deaths with a positivity rate of 23.86 percent.
