No More Free PS4 Games On PS Plus. Here's When Sony Will Begin This Major Change

Sony announced, “As we shift to PS5, PS4 games will no longer be a key benefit and will only be occasionally offered for PlayStation Plus Monthly Games and Game Catalog.”

Sony has announced plans to phase out PlayStation 4 titles from its PlayStation Plus Essentials lineup and Games Catalog. This strategic move aligns with the company’s growing focus on its next-generation console, the PlayStation 5.

The update was shared via the PlayStation Blog, alongside the reveal of the monthly game offerings for February 2025. Sony confirmed that while PS4 titles will no longer be a regular feature, they may still appear occasionally.

“As we shift to PS5, PS4 games will no longer be a key benefit and will only be occasionally offered for PlayStation Plus Monthly Games and Game Catalog,” Sony noted. Players who have already claimed PS4 games through the service will retain access, though catalogue titles will remain available only until they are removed as part of periodic updates.

When Will Sony Stop Giving Free PS4 Games?

As per Sony's announcement, PS Plus will stop offering free PS4 Games on the Game Catalog starting January 2026.

Sony assured subscribers that other PlayStation Plus benefits, such as exclusive discounts, online multiplayer access, and cloud storage for game saves, will remain intact. The company pledged to continue enhancing the service with new PS5 content each month.

It remains unclear whether PS4 games will transition to the Classics Catalog, which currently features remastered and ported versions of earlier-generation PlayStation titles. Sony is expected to provide more clarity closer to the planned changes.

February’s PS Plus Free Games Lineup Announced

PlayStation Plus subscribers can look forward to a dynamic trio of games launching on February 4, 2025:

  • Payday 3 (PS5): Assemble your crew for high-stakes heists in this action-packed cooperative shooter. Players will lead the infamous Payday Gang out of retirement for thrilling new adventures.
  • High on Life (PS4, PS5): Squanch Games delivers a wild sci-fi journey filled with humor, talking weapons, and bizarre enemies as players defend Earth from an alien drug cartel.
  • Pac-Man World Re-Pac (PS4, PS5): Relive platforming nostalgia with this revamped version of the classic Pac-Man adventure, featuring upgraded graphics, smoother controls, and the iconic maze puzzles.

These games will be available to claim until March 3, 2025, for all PlayStation Plus members.
