Netflix To Expand Gaming With Access On TV, PC: All You Need To Know

Netflix Gaming was so far only available via the mobile app.

In a strategic move to broaden its gaming reach, Netflix is set to embark on a testing phase that will allow select TVs and computers to host games, as conveyed by Mike Verdu, the Vice President of Games at Netflix, in a blog post on Monday. The entertainment giant is commencing a limited beta test, exclusively accessible to a small cohort of members residing in Canada and the United Kingdom. The trial will commence on designated TVs from Monday and then progress to PCs and Macs via Netflix.com's supported browsers in the forthcoming weeks.

Netflix initially delved into the gaming landscape by launching games for mobile devices back in November 2021. These offerings were restricted to Apple's (AAPL.O) iOS and Alphabet's Android platforms.

The preliminary game lineup for the trial includes "Oxenfree," developed by Night School Studio — a component of Netflix Game Studio — and "Molehew's Mining Adventure," an arcade-style gem-mining game.

A distinctive feature of this endeavour is that users will be able to play these games on TVs using their smartphones, whereas PC and Mac users will be able to access them on Netflix.com using a keyboard and mouse.

In the words of Mike Verdu, "By making games available on more devices, we hope to make games even easier to play for our members around the world."

Netflix's gaming expansion plan involves collaboration with key partners, including Amazon Fire TV Streaming Media Players, Chromecast with Google TV, Roku devices, and others, to ensure that games on TVs operate seamlessly on selected devices.
