'Women Are Lazy': Sonali Kulkarni's Comment Takes Social Media By Storm, Uorfi Javed Also Reacts.

Sonali spoke extensively about contemporary Indian women and how they long for a stable, well-paid spouse but are not involved in family finances. In fact, she went so far as to label women as 'lazy'.

New Delhi: National Award-winning actor Sonali Kulkarni recently angered many netizens when she criticised some women for being 'demanding' and 'lazy'. Kulkarni made the comments during an interview with Bhupenddra Singh Raathore, the owner of the well-known YouTube channel 'CoachBSR'. This conversation was shared on YouTube on March 2, and a short video of it quickly became popular.

After Sonali Kulkarni's recent remarks, a certain segment of Twitter users became furious. In the interview, Sonali spoke extensively about contemporary Indian women and how they long for a stable, well-paid spouse but have are not involved in the family's finances. In fact, she went so far as to label women as 'lazy'.

She said, "In India, there are a lot of women who are just lazy. They want a husband who has a good job, own house, guaranteed increments, but they do not know what they want to do for themselves. Women don't know what will they do."

"I urge everyone to bring up such women in you houses that are able and can earn for themselves. Who can say that yes, we want a new fridge in the house, you pay for half of it, I will pay the other half.", she further added.

While many men applaud her for speaking the truth, many women have criticised her for having a narrow view of the scenario. One of them wrote, "I don't know who she is but hats off to her courage to speak the unspoken unpalatable truth!", while another one said, "Spot on, so glad someone spoke abt this! This bias begins at home, parents expect from sons and not daughters when it comes to finances. A woman’s earnings is her own, where as a man’s is for all. Women are never equal unless they fight for shared responsibilities with men."

A third one said, "Twitter should invent virtual slap. Ladkiyaan aalsi nahi hoti, half of the families in India dont raise their daughters to build careers, they educate them so they get good husband and they condition girls to believe marriage will be the biggest moment of their lives not their careers"

One of the users also said, "Who can give such statements that women are lazy, if not a privileged upper caste woman. Look at women in this country. The amount of unpaid labor women do almost feels criminal. She needs to read the Govt data on what women go through in this country. Sit down, Miss Kulkarni."

To this, singer Sona Mohapatra replied, "True & truly sad. Check the matrimonial columns-wanted, good looking, educated, earning,’homely’;take care of in-laws, Hh duties & hand over monthly salary type of ad’s. Double whammy. The ‘insight’ she has is lazy & should have been qualified such - ‘in my circles’"

Uorfi Javed also reacted to the video and left her views. She said, "How insensitive, whatever you said! You’re calling modern-day women lazy when they are handling their work as well as household chores together? What’s wrong in wanting a husband who is earning good? Men for centuries only saw women as child vending machine and yes the main reason for marriage - dowry. Ladies don’t be afraid to ask or demand. Yes you’re right women should work but that’s a privilege that not everyone gets. You’re too entitled to see that may be."
