Uttar Pradesh officers visited 'Tandav' director Ali Abbas Zafar's residence to serve him a notice in connection with a case registered against the makers and actors of Amazon Prime Video's web series.
Uttar Pradesh officials visited ‘Tandav’ director Ali Abbas Zafar’s house in Mumbai on Thursday (January 21) to serve him a notice in connection with the case filed against the makers at Lucknow. The UP police team asked Zafar to appear before the investigating officer in state’s capital on January 27, according to a report in PTI.
A four-member team of UP police arrived in Mumbai on Wednesday (January 20) to investigate the case registered against the producers and cast of ‘Tandav’ at Hazratganj police station. The team said that Ali Abbas Zafar was not available at his place when the officials went to serve him notice. The team pasted a notice in the premises as the door of his house was locked, an official told the news agency.
The ‘Tiger Zinda Hai’ director has been summoned to appear before the UP police at 10am on January 27. He will have to record his statement at Lucknow.
The report further stated that the police team is likely to visit the houses of the cast of ‘Tandav’ to record their statements as part of the investigation.
‘Tandav’ has been mired in controversies ever since it released on Amazon Prime Video. The web series, which released on January 15, has faced flak from several political leaders for allegedly hurting religious sentiments and portraying Hind deities in a poor light. For the uninitiated, at least three FIRs have been filed against the producers and cast in Uttar Pradesh.
On a related note, the Bombay High Court has granted three weeks transit anticipatory bail to producer Himanshu Krishna Mehra, writer Gaurav Solanki, Amazon’s head of content Aparna Purohit and Zafar.
Ali Abbas Zafar had issued a statement to announce that he would make changes in scenes in ‘Tandav’. He said that the makers had no intentions of hurting the sentiments of any individual or community.
'Tandav' stars Saif Ali Khan, Dimple Kapadia, Tigmanshu Dhulia, Sunil Grover, Dino Morea, Mohd Zeeshan Ayyub, Kritika Kamra and Gauahar Khan.
