Veteran filmmaker Subhash Ghai on Monday shared an old video of the US artistic swimming team performing to the musical theme of his 1999 hit film ‘Taal’ at the World Aquatics Doha 2024.

Veteran filmmaker Subhash Ghai on Monday shared an old video of the US artistic swimming team performing to the musical theme of his 1999 hit film ‘Taal’ at the World Aquatics Doha 2024. The original song features Aishwarya Rai.

What Subhash Ghai wrote

Ghai took to Twitter and shared the video of the US team performing at the Doha 2024 World Aquatics Championships in February. The director said it's rare for the music of a Hindi film to become this "iconic".

He wrote, “RARELY IT HAPPENS WHEN A HINDI FILM THEME MUSIC LIKE TAAL’ BECOMES ICONIC. It was seen at World Aquatics DOHA 2024 which inspired USA ARTISTIC SWIMMING TEAM to display their unique performance on music of TAAL. I feel blessed .. thank you all.”

The title song of "Taal" was sung by Alka Yagnik and Udit Narayan. The track was penned by Anand Bakshi.

The musical romance drama starred Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Akshaye Khanna, and Anil Kapoor.

Watch the video and netizens reaction

In the video, a group of female U.S. swimmers showcased impressive underwater synchronisation to the instrumental version of ‘Taal Se Taal.’

One X user tweeted, " Felt happy for the song but look at them how can they do that..the balancing in the water is no joke.”

Taal se taal is perfect for any cultural event… arr truly is the face of Indian music,” read another comment.

However, some questioned the video's authenticity. A user wrote, "This is a fake video, the Indian music has been added to it. It is edited not original."

The musical drama 'Taal', starring Aishwarya Rai, Anil Kapoor, and Akshaye Khanna in lead roles, with Amrish Puri and Alok Nath in supporting roles, was later dubbed in Tamil as Thaalam. For Taal, Anil Kapoor, AR Rahman, Alka Yagnik, and Anand Bakshi each won a Filmfare Award in 2000.
