Vikram Gokhale Health Update: Actor Critical With Multiple Organ Failure, Says Family Friend

Veteran actor Vikram Gokhale, who was admitted to the Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital in Pune a fortnight ago, is critical and continues to fight for his life, a family friend told the media on Thursday.

New Delhi: Veteran actor Vikram Gokhale, who was admitted to the Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital in Pune a fortnight ago, is critical and continues to fight for his life, a family friend told the media on Thursday.

"Vikram Gokhale has been fighting for life since the past 24 hours. He has suffered multiple organ failures. The doctors' team is trying its best. That's what we have been informed," said the friend, talking briefly to the media.

He also scoffed at rumours of the veteran actor's death, which circulated like wildfire late last night, though it was known that he was serious Wednesday evening.

The hospital's PRO too addressed the media and said that a meeting between Vikram Gokhale's family & doctors took place on Thursday morning at 10 am.

Earlier, Gokhle’s wife Vrushali refuted his death reports and said that he 'slipped into a coma'. Talking to TOI, Vrushali said, "He slipped into coma yesterday afternoon and post that, he has not responded to touch. He is on ventilator. Doctors will decide tomorrow morning what to do, depending on whether he's improving, sinking or still not responding. He improved a bit but slipped again. He has had a host of issues, like in heart and kidney. At the moment, he has had a multi-organ failure."

Vikram Gokhale suffered from a serious liver disease that ultimately led to disfunctioning of the other vital organs.

Son of the prominent Marathi theatre and cinema actor, Chandrakhant Gokhale, Gokhale has acted in major Bollywood films like Sanjay Leela Bhansali's romantic 'Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam' (1999), where he was Aishwarya Rai's music maestro father; Kamal Haasan's 'Hey Ram' (2001); as Acharya Yagyaprakash Bharti in 'Bhool Bhulaiyaa' (2007); and in Priyadarshan's rib-tickler 'De Dana Dan' (2009) as a diplomat, and many others.

He donned the director's hat in 2010 with Marathi film 'Aaghaat' and bagged the National Film Award for Best Actor category for his Marathi film 'Anumati', and has been conferred the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 2011 for his Acting in Theatre.
