Urvashi Rautela Chops Off Her Hair Short In Support Of Ankita Bhandari And Iran Protesters

Urvashi took to Instagram early on Monday to share images of herself getting her hair chopped. She captioned the photos by writing, "CHOPPED MY HAIR OFF!

New Delhi: Bollywood actress Urvashi Rautela is the latest celebrity to publicly endorse the anti-hijab protests by Iranian women. She has posted images of herself cutting off strands of hair in favour of Ankita Bhandari from Uttarakhand and Iranian protestors.

Urvashi took to Instagram early on Monday to share images of herself getting her hair chopped. She captioned the photos by writing, "CHOPPED MY HAIR OFF! Cutting my hair in support of Iranian women and girls who have been killed in protests at the death of Mahsa Amini after her arrest by Iranian morality police & for all the girls. And for the 19-year-old girl, my Ankita Bhandari from Uttarakhand. Around the world, women are uniting in protest against the Iranian government by cutting their hair. Respect Women A Global Symbol For Women’s Revolution."

In addition to this, she went on to elaborate on what the act of chopping off hair in public meant and wrote, "Hair is seen as a symbol of the beauty of women. By chopping off their hair in public, women are showing that they don’t care about society’s beauty standards and won’t let anything or anyone decide how they dress up, behave or live. Once women come together and consider one woman’s issue as an issue of the entire womankind, feminism will see a new vigour."

Massive protests have shaken Iran after the death of Mahsa Amini post her arrest on September 13. She was arrested for having violated the strict Iranian dress code. Women have been throwing off their hijabs and burning them to ashes all around the world in protest against Iran's hijab legislation, and many have had their hair chopped off and heads shaved.

On the other hand, Ankita Bhandari, a 19-year-old receptionist at a resort near Rishikesh in Uttarakhand, was reportedly killed by Pulkit Arya, the son of an ex-BJP politician, and two of his accomplices. Her suspected murder provoked widespread outrage.

Urvashi's support comes a few days after 'Sacred Games' actress Elnaaz Nourozi, who is of Iranian heritage, stripped in front of the camera to defend Iranian women and expressed her disapproval of the "morality police."
