Television actor Surbhi Jyoti, who tied the knot with actor Sumit Suri last year, recently spoke about the unique arrangement she and Sumit have—maintaining separate rooms in their home.

Surbhi and Sumit have separate rooms

The couple, who got married in October 2024 at a picturesque resort in Jim Corbett, Uttarakhand, dated for several years before deciding to take the next step. While many would assume married life means sharing every corner of a home, Surbhi in a conversation with Pinkvilla, shared that the two of them prefer having their own space—even under the same roof.

“He also works from home, I also (do it) from home when I’m not shooting. We’re not desperate to go out, we’re just very happy (staying home). In our house, we have separate rooms out of choice. Because he lived on his own for most of his life. Same with me. It was a mutual decision. It’s rare, but it happens,” she told Pinkvilla.

Giving each other physical space

Surbhi explained that the idea stemmed from their shared need for personal space. While they’re completely in sync emotionally, giving each other physical space has only strengthened their bond.

“My own cupboard, my own wardrobe, my own bathroom and my space. Sometimes he’s in his own, I’m in my room. Still, we’re together. This happened because we were on the same page. I’m not saying it’s the only way you can give each other space, but yeah. That’s how we’re doing it,” she added, clarifying that what works for them might not work for everyone.
