Speculation has been rife regarding the return of the beloved character Dayaben in the long-running sitcom 'Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah'. Recently, reports surfaced suggesting that the makers had found an actor to take on the iconic role. However, producer Asit Modi has now addressed these claims, shedding light on the status of Dayaben’s comeback and Disha Vakani’s involvement in the show. 

Asit Modi on casting for Dayaben

In a conversation with Indian Express, Asit Modi clarified that the casting for Dayaben has not been finalised yet. He reassured fans that the character would soon make a return to the show, acknowledging the audience’s deep attachment to Dayaben. “People have been eagerly waiting for Daya Bhabhi, and I will finalise her soon. People say that without Dayaben, they don’t enjoy the show as much, and I agree. We, as a team, are trying to fill Daya Bhabhi’s absence as much as we can. But she will return soon,” he stated. 

On Disa Vakani's return

Addressing the ongoing curiosity surrounding Disha Vakani’s return, Modi admitted that her comeback might be challenging due to personal commitments. He emphasized their long-standing bond and shared, “We can only pray that Disha Vakani returns as the character. She is like my sister, and she has some family duties to fulfill, which is why it might be difficult for her to return. We miss her even today. She was very sincere and caring towards her co-stars and the team. We hope to find someone just like that.” 

Rumours around casting of Dayaben

Meanwhile, actress Kajal Pisal, who was rumoured to be stepping into the role, has denied any such development. Speaking to Times Now, she clarified that while she had auditioned for Dayaben in 2022, the pictures currently making rounds on social media were old. Kajal is presently working on the television show Jhanak. 

Last month, News18, citing an industry insider, reported that Asit Modi had been actively searching for a new Dayaben and had recently been impressed by an audition. “Yes, it is right. Asit ji had been looking for a new Dayaben, and recently, one of the auditions impressed him a lot. Mock shoots with the actress are underway. It’s been around a week that she has been here, shooting with us,” the source told News 18.. 

Disha Vakani, who had been an integral part of 'Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah' since its inception, took a maternity break in 2018 and has not returned to the show since. Despite her prolonged absence, her portrayal of Dayaben remains a fan favorurite.
