The show's creators announced the news on their official social media accounts, sharing a promo introducing Sethupathi as the host of Bigg Boss Tamil season 8. This change comes after Kamal Haasan revealed that he would be stepping down due to prior film commitments.

The promo, released on Wednesday, showcases Sethupathi making a grand entrance, giving fans a taste of the excitement and drama the season promises. The visuals also offer a glimpse of the house, featuring a modern and luxurious design.
Kamal Haasan's Announcement
Back in August, Kamal Haasan shared a heartfelt message on Instagram, stating, “With a heavy heart, I wish to inform you that I will be taking a small break from our journey that began 7 years ago. Due to prior cinematic commitments, I am unable to host the upcoming season of Bigg Boss Tamil.”
Vijay Sethupathi's work front and previous hosting experience
This isn't Sethupathi's first experience as a host. He previously hosted 'MasterChef Tamil.
He garnered critical acclaim and praises from all corners for his performance in the gripping drama 'Maharaja' also starring Anurag Kashyap as the lead antagonist. The film was produced by Sudha Sundaram and Jagadish Palanisamy under Passion Studios and The Route. 'Maharaja' collected Rs. 4.7 cr( Tamil: Rs. 3.6 cr, Telgu: Rs. 1.1 cr) on Day 1, Sacnilk.com reported. The film collected Rs. 7.75 cr( Tamil: Rs. 5.85 cr, Telugu: Rs. 1.9 cr) on Day 2. 'Maharaja' collected Rs. 9 cr net in India on Day 3 as per early reports the analysis site reported.
On the work front, Sethupathi will next appear in Viduthalai 2, directed by Vetrimaaran. The sequel to the 2023 film Viduthalai is set to release in December.
