Shangi-Chi Star Simu Liu Among Time Magazine's 100 Most Influential People 2022

The 'Shangi-Chi' star has also just written a memoir, 'We Were Dreamers: An Immigrant Superhero Origin Story' and is currently working on Greta Gerwig's upcoming film titled 'Barbie'.

New Delhi: Simu Liu, Marvel's famous 'Shangi-Chi' star has been named one of the 100 most influential people in the world by Time magazine. The most popular Canadian Chinese of his generation to amass this kind of stardom, Simu Liu portrayed the titular role in MCU's 'Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings'. He also happens to be Marvel's first Asian superhero.

Simu is also known for portraying the role of Jung Kim in the CBC Television sitcom 'Kim's Convenience.' He is also well-known for his critically-acclaimed performance in 'Blood and Water'.

Simu started his career as an accountant at Deloitte in his 20s but was eventually laid off. In an interview with The Guardian, he recollected being sacked as, "One of those moments that are seared into your life forever – we all have them." Perhaps, being sacked was one of the best things that happened to him.

The 'Shangi-Chi' star has also just written a memoir, 'We Were Dreamers: An Immigrant Superhero Origin Story' and is currently working on Greta Gerwig's upcoming film titled 'Barbie'.

In his memoir, Liu speaks about his parents' reaction on first hearing that he got Marvel's 'Shang Chi'. Apparently, they were just happy that he finally had a job and gave a matter-of-fact answer that sounded like someone had told his father that his, "dry cleaning would be ready on time”. Liu further writes, "My parents didn’t have much to offer on the subject of coolness or puberty, other than that it was a totally meaningless diversion from the true purpose of childhood: getting into Harvard."

The memoir also traces the hardships Liu's parents undertook to move to Canada and bring up Liu.  In fact, Liu has spoken of the vast cultural differences between his parents and himself.

Before becoming the star he is today, Liu also wrote and directed short films trying to tell stories of Asian- Americans he felt were ignored on a daily basis.

Although most fans will now be excited to get their hands on Liu's memoir, 'We Were Dreamers: An Immigrant Superhero Origin Story', we would like to congratulate Liu for making it to Time magazines' 100 Most Influential People List of 2022.
