RRR Surpasses Aamir Khan Starrer 3 Idiots To Become Third Highest-Grossing Indian film in Japan
The Telugu action movie RRR is now the third-highest grossing Indian movie in Japan, surpassing Aamir Khan's 3 Idiots at the box office.
'RRR', the crowning achievement of director S.S. Rajamouli, continues to be widely acclaimed. For a while now, the movie has been getting attention. And once more, it has hit the headlines for surpassing Aamir Khan's '3 Idiots' box office gross in Japan to become the third-highest earning Indian movie there. On October 21, Rajamouli's masterpiece was released in Japan. It quickly overtook Aamir Khan's previously dominating flick. 'RRR' reportedly made JPY 180 million in 17 days after being screened on 209 theaters and 31 Imax screens throughout 44 cities and prefectures in Japan.
As per reports, '3 Idiots' overall lifetime earnings in Japan is JPY 170 million. With JPY 180 million, RRR has beaten the Hindi film to take third spot among the highest-grossing Indian movies. In the meantime, Rajinikanth's 'Muthu', which was premiered 24 years ago, continues to be the top-grossing Indian movie of all time in Japan with a JPY400 million box office haul. 'Baahubali 2', another blockbuster by Rajamouli, is in second place with a JPY300 million box office collection.
The Telugu-language period action movie featuring Ram Charan and N.T. Rama Rao Jr. is the only non-English-language movie to rise worldwide on Netflix for 10 weeks in a row.
The story of two legendary rebels who left their homes to fight for their country in the 1920s is the central focus of the movie. Rajamouli recently acknowledged the inspiration he drew from both western films and other Indian epics for his film. During a panel discussion at Deadline's Contenders Film: New York event, Rajamouli remarked, "The biggest inspiration for me is Mel Gibson’s 'Braveheart'. I like that film a lot. The way he enhances the drama before the action is a big influence on me”.
'RRR', which continues to receive plaudits from international media, was given the top spot on its list of the finest films of 2022 so far earlier this year.
