New Delhi: Santoor maestro Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma bid adieu to his worldly life on May 10. The legendary santoor player was 84 years old when he succumbed to a cardiac arrest in a Mumbai hospital, and breathed his last. Panditji's death comes as a huge loss for the music industry, that achieved great heights with his eclectic santoor playing, and helped Indian classical music achieve worldwide recognition.
The last rites of Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma took place on Wednesday. Popular celebrities including Amitabh Bachchan accompanied by wife Jaya Bachchan, veteran lyricist Javed Akhtar with wife and actress Shabana Azmi, music-composer duo Jatin Pandit and Lalit Pandit and singer Roop Kumar Rathod, among several others, paid last respects to the santoor maestro at the funeral ceremony.
The santoor maestro's last rites took place with full state honours with his corpse being wrapped in the Indian tricolour followed by a 21 gun salute.

Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma also contributed to the Hindi film industry by giving some of the blockbuster Bollywood movies, the most remarkable music of all times. He composed music for several films for the Yash Raj banners with his partner and renowned flutist Harisprasad Chaurasia, under the name Shiv-Hari.
The year 2022 has been a huge loss for the music industry, with several pioneers leaving for their heavenly abode. Beginning with Kathak maestro Pandit Birju Maharaj's death, who was also one of the pioneers of Indian Classical music, the industry grieved at the loss of 'Queen of Melody' Lata Mangeshkar. One of the biggest setbacks was the sudden demise of singer and music-composer Bappi Lahiri, who died of a heart attack on February 15.
