IC 814 The Kandahar Hijack: Anubhav Sinha Gives It Back When Questioned About Misrepresentation: 'Series Dekhi Hai Kya'

'IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack' filmmaker Anubhav Sinha recently lost his temper at a press meet on Tuesday.

New Delhi: 'IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack' filmmaker Anubhav Sinha recently lost his temper at a press meet on Tuesday. Sinha was there to promote his series along with the star cast of the film, and talk about the 1999 incident.

Anubhav Sinha was asked a question about the alleged distortion of facts in the web series which he refused to answer. When he was constantly asked to address the two, the filmmaker lost his cool. Even when the host tried to interject, Anubhav Sinha was asked to respond.

Anubhav Sinha's reaction

When the questions kept coming, Anubhav angrily responded, "Apne series dekha hain? Series dekhiye. Baat nahi kar sakta aapse, aapne series nahi dekhi.( Have you seen the series? Watch first. I cannot speak to you if you have not seen it.)

IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack stars Vijay Varma, Dia Mirza, Naseeruddin Shah, Pankaj Kapur and Arvind Swamy.

IC 814 controversy

The Netflix series IC 814: The Kandahar Hijack courted controversy after its release on August 29, 2024. Many claimed the series 'altered' facts and events leading up to the hijack. Some were hurt with the use of non-Muslim names used by the hijackers as code names, which hurt the sentiments of many.

While it has been clarified that Bhola, Shankar, Doctor, Burger and Chief were code names used by the terrorist hijackers on the flight, a section of the audience were not satisfied.

In light of the controversy, Netflix's content head was sumoned by the government of India. Later, Netflix agreed to update the series' disclaimer to mention the real names of the hijackers after the I&B ministry met them over the allegation of misrepresentation of facts.

“For the benefit of audiences unfamiliar with the 1999 hijacking of Indian Airlines Flight 814, the opening disclaimer has been updated to include the real and code names of the hijackers. The code names in the series reflect those used during the actual event. India has a rich culture of storytelling — and we are committed to showcasing these stories and their authentic representation,” said Monika Shergill, Vice President, Content, Netflix India in a press note.
