'Because There's So Much Happening, That People Like Me Exist...': Adarsh Gourav On the Opportunities OTT Provides To Actors
In a chat with ABP Live over a video call, Adarsh Gourav talked about his character in 'Guns and Gulaabs' and also shared the current scenario of shows being released in OTT.
Adarsh Gourav, acclaimed for his breakout performance in 'The White Tiger', was recently seen in 'Guns And Gulaabs'. His performance in the Netflix series garnered a lot of praise, where he essayed the role of 'Jugnu'. In addition to him, the series also stars Rajkumar Rao, Dulquer Salmaan, Gourav Sharma, Gulshan Devaiah and others.
In a chat with ABP Live over a video call, Adarsh Gourav talked about his character in the series and also shared the current scenario of shows being released in OTT.
Sharing his experience in the series, Adarsh said, "It was very refreshing. I got to work with Raj and DK who I am a big fan of. I got to play a very complex character and I am thankful for them to trust me with that. It was so exciting to work again with Rajkumar Bhai."
He then went on to talk about his character 'Jugnu' and said that it was the most complex character that he had played so far.
"Jugnu has been brought up in an environment where there has always been these toxic male gangsters around. I don't think Jugnu ever belonged there and there was nobody he could speak to about how he felt. Because of the comfort and priviledge, there was a certain sense of man-childishness in him."
"So, in the scene where he is with Nirmal and his wife, a lot of people have asked me about that scene, but for me that scene was about somebody who doesn't understand what their boundaries are, because they have never been told that- what is of another person, is not yours. Because, for my character, everything that I see is mine in someway," he continued.
"It was very challeging to get into Jugnu's mind and start thinking like that. It was sort of to understand the sense of priviledge that I can't relate with and to understand the power trip, the constant feeling of insecurity and inadequacy. It was hard to understand and get there," he added.
On being asked whether he prefers to play complex characters, Adarsh said, "Not necessarily. There is no preference as such. But then, I feel every human being that I end up playing will be very complex unless I am just being myself, like unless somebody has put a camera in my house and is recording me. Every person is very complex. It's only when you start understanding that person, their secrets, and their hidden lives is when you understand the complexity of that character."
Adarsh also went on to talk about the current scenario where there are so many shows releasing on OTT and that, at times, it becomes overwhelming for a viewer.
He said, "I feel like in general, the shelf life of films and projects have become smaller because there is so much content and so many films that are coming out. Earlier when a good film would come out, people would actually sit and dwell and talk about it and really think about it. People spoke about 'Rang De Basanti' for months. But, today there is so much coming, that it's not necessary that every thing that releases will be great."
"I don't want to be misquoted, but I think it has become harder for people to sort of focus on one thing because there is so much happening and so many stories that are being constantly shared. But, I don't know if it's a good thing or a bad thing or what's the solution to that is," he added.
He also went on to talk about the numerous opportunities that budding actors are getting because of OTT and the scale in which shows are being being and said, "Because there is so much more happening that people like me even exist today, otherwise I would not have even gotten a chance to be an actor."
Talking about Adarsh, his exceptional acting prowess has garnered him international recognition, and his latest achievement further solidifies his position as a rising star in the entertainment industry. His debut in 'The White Tiger' not only showcased his remarkable talent but also earned him a prestigious BAFTA nomination alongside the legendary Sir Anthony Hopkins.
On the ork front, he will be seen in 'Kho Gaye Hum Kahan', a much-anticipated project with Ananya Pandey and Siddhanth Chaturvedi.
