The ambitious two-part live-action cinematic universe, Ramayana, has officially lifted the veil on its grand scale with the global launch of 'Ramayana: The Introduction'.

New Delhi: A larger-than-life retelling of one of India's most sacred epics is officially underway. Namit Malhotra's ambitious two-part saga 'Ramayana' is poised to become one of the most significant cinematic projects ever attempted, not just in Indian cinema, but globally. On July 3, 2025, the creators unveiled the first glimpse of the film, titled 'Ramayana: The Introduction', marking the beginning of what they call "the IMMORTAL story of Rama v/s Ravana."

The three-minute teaser of 'Ramayana' sets the tone for what could be a groundbreaking visual spectacle.

The film 'Ramayana' is utilising cutting-edge visual effects from DNEG, an Oscar-winning VFX studio. Director Nitesh Tiwari is at the helm, aiming to balance the traditional essence of the epic tale with a modern cinematic approach.

The teaser, 'The Introduction', was launched with massive fan screenings across nine Indian cities and a billboard takeover at New York’s Times Square, teasing an epic clash between Rama and Ravana set in a meticulously crafted mythological universe.

'Ramayana: The Introduction' Cast and Crew

The cast brings together some of Indian cinema’s biggest names. Ranbir Kapoor steps into the iconic role of Lord Rama, while pan-India superstar Yash will portray the formidable Ravana. Sai Pallavi joins the epic as Sita, Sunny Deol appears as Hanuman, and Ravie Dubey takes on the role of Lakshman. Together, they lead a stellar ensemble supported by a top-tier technical crew from Hollywood and India.

The music score is a historic collaboration between A.R. Rahman and Hans Zimmer. Action choreography is in the capable hands of Terry Notary (Avengers, Planet of the Apes) and Guy Norris (Mad Max: Fury Road), while the visual world is being shaped by acclaimed production designers Ravi Bansal (Dune 2) and Ramsey Avery (Tomorrowland).

Director Nitesh Tiwari shared, “Ramayana is a story we’ve all grown up with. It carries the soul of our culture. Our aim was to honour that soul — and present it with the cinematic scale it truly deserves. As a filmmaker, it’s both a huge responsibility and a heartfelt honour to bring it to life. It’s a tale that has endured across millennia because it speaks to something deep and eternal within us. We are not simply making a film."

'Ramayana' Release Date

With its debut chapter slated for release during Diwali 2026 and Part 2 expected in Diwali 2027, the film is being shot for immersive formats like IMAX to deliver a visually opulent experience.
