'You Will Always Be An Inspiration': Salman Khan Mourns Milkha Singh's Death

Salman Khan paid a tribute to legendary sprinter Milkha Singh, who died due to COVID-19 complications.

Mumbai: Bollywood superstar Salman Khan expressed his grief over the demise of legendary sprinter Milkha Singh. The 91-year-old athlete, fondly known as Flying Sikh, passed away on Friday (June 18) due to COVID-19 related complications. He left for his heavenly abode five days after the demise of his wife Nirmal.  

Salman said that Milkha Singh would always remain an ‘inspiration’ for the people. He offered his condolence on Twitter on Saturday afternoon by sharing a post. “You will always be an inspiration... RIP Milkha Singh Ji,” the ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ actor wrote on the micro-blogging site.

Several tinsel town celebs including Shah Rukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra and Amitabh Bachchan mourned Milkha Singh’s death on social media. King Khan said that his legacy will remain 'unmatched' and called him an 'inspiration' to millions of people.

 "The Flying Sikh may no longer be with us in person but his presence will always be felt and his legacy will remain unmatched... An inspiration to me... an inspiration to millions. Rest in Peace Milkha Singh sir," SRK's tweet read.

Farhan Akhtar, who played the role of Milkha Singh in his biopic titled ‘Bhaag Milkha Milkha’, also paid a tribute to the sprinter. He penned a heartfelt note on Instagram for the former Commonwealth champion. He wrote, "You have touched all our lives. For those who knew you as a father and a friend, it was a blessing. For those who didn’t, your story was a constant source of inspiration and a reminder of humility in success. I love you with all my heart."

'Bhaag Milkha Bhaag', directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, will complete eight years of release on July 12, 2021. The sports drama co-starring Sonam Kapoor and Divya Dutta received a good response from the audience when it hit the silver screens in 2013. Critics and fans praised Farhan for playing the role of Singh with perfection.

Last month, Mikha was admitted to a hospital after his oxygen levels dipped. His family issued a statement to inform everyone about his demise on Friday night. “It is with extreme sadness that we would like to inform you that Milkha Singh Ji passed away. He fought hard but God has his ways and it was perhaps true love and companionship that both our mother Nirmal ji & now Dad have passed away in a matter of 5 days,” the statement read as quoted by ANI.
