Happy Birthday Bhumi Pednekar: Roles Essayed By Her Which Makes Her Stand Out In The Crowd

From starting her career by portraying the role of an overweight bride in ‘Dum Laga Ke Haisha’ to playing a dark-skinned woman in ‘Bala’, birthday girl Bhumi Pednekar sure does know how to sway the audience with her craft.

New Delhi: Bhumi Pednekar is one of the most unconventional actresses the Bollywood industry has ever witnessed. She broke all the norms of the ‘stereotypical’ Bollywood heroine. Born in Mumbai on 18th July 1989, the ‘Pati Patni Aur Who’ actress worked with Yash Raj Films as an assistant casting director for 6 years before foraying her ways into acting. She lost her father, Satish Pednekar to oral cancer in the year 2011, who was also the home and labour minister of Maharashtra. But all of these couldn’t stop Bhumi and once she stepped into the world of the film industry, there was no looking back for her. Here’s bringing to you some of the outlandish characters played by the actress in her career of just 5 years. Sandhya Varma in Dum Laga Ke Haisha Pednekar kick-started her career with the movie ‘Dum Laga Ke Haisha’ where she was seen starring opposite Ayushmann Khurrana. She essayed the role of an overweight bride in this rom-com who tries to get her husband’s attention. Though set in the backdrop of 1990s, her character stands up for women rights and equality who does not like her self-respect to be tamed with. Bhumi also landed the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut for this movie. Jaya in Toilet: Ek Prem Katha Toilet: Ek Prem Katha is a movie based on the normal sanitation problems in the country significantly focussing on the elimination of open defecation. The ‘Sonchiriya’ actress played the role of an educated college-going girl who eventually marries Akshay Kumar’s character ‘Keshav’ in the movie. But soon after Jaya gets married, she comes to terms with the fact that there is no toilet at her in-laws and she unwillingly goes to the open field to defecate. Her character brings to screen the stubbornness every woman should have if they are forced to dump in the open. This movie became a commercial success and earned 300 crores at the box-office. Chandro Tomar in Saand Ki Aankh When most of the Bollywood heroines are concerned about playing the role of an old woman in the early years of their career, there was Bhumi Pednekar who essayed the role of an old sharpshooter with the utmost ease. The movie is a biopic of the real-life sexagenarian sharpshooters, Chandro Tomar and Prakash Tomar who rebel against the patriarchal setup of the society. The role of Prakash Tomar was portrayed by Tapsee Pannu and both the actresses received critical acclamation and awards for their performance. Latika Trivedi in Bala The ‘Shubh Mangal Saavdhan’ actress personated the role of a dark-skinned girl in the movie revolving around the issue of premature baldness. In the movie, Latika Trivedi is illustrated as a character who is not ashamed of her dark skin and does not care about what people thinks about her. The character sketched by Bhumi in this film is the exact opposite of the protagonist’s character and her acting skills made the character stand out. Almost all the characters that the ‘Lust Stories’ actress represents on-screen is relatable and different at the same time. We wish this talented and hard-working personality to shine out with her individualistic way of choosing scripts.
