Bhool Chuk Maaf, the much-talked-about time loop comedy headlined by Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi, had a modest start at the box office. Despite the buzz around its quirky plot and courtroom drama preceding its release, the film failed to set the cash registers ringing on opening day.

Bhool Chuk Maaf day 1 box office collection

According to Sacnilk.com, the Karan Sharma directorial managed to collect just ₹6.75 crore nett in India on its first day in theatres, with a Hindi occupancy of 19.36% on Friday.

While this figure places Bhool Chuk Maaf ahead of Rajkummar’s previous release Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video—which opened with ₹5.5 crore—it’s still far from the massive day-one success of Stree 2, which earned ₹51.8 crore, both per Sacnilk.com.

About the film

The story follows a man on the verge of marriage who discovers he is trapped in a time loop, reliving the day before his wedding repeatedly.

The film had faced controversy weeks ahead of its release. Maddock Films, the production house behind the film, had initially planned to skip a theatrical release and premiere directly on Prime Video on May 16, citing security restrictions following Operation Sindoor.

This decision sparked a legal tussle, with multiplex giant PVRINOX challenging the move in court. Eventually, an agreement was reached between PVRINOX, Maddock Films, and Amazon MGM Studios, leading to the theatrical release of Bhool Chuk Maaf on May 23.

Bhool Chuk Maaf Review

An excerpt from the ABP Live review of the film reads as, "Rajkummar Rao is in fine form, portraying a man caught in a time loop with impressive emotional depth and comic timing. While he’s played relatable, everyman characters before, this performance still feels fresh. Wamiqa Gabbi is the surprise standout. She looks stunning, avoids the typical “heroine” mold, and brings a grounded charm to her character.

Seema Pahwa and Raghubir Yadav are brilliant in their supporting roles. Zakir Hussain, Sanjay Mishra (in a role that deserved more screen time), Pragati Mishra, and Ishtiyak Khan also shine—particularly Khan, whose comic timing is spot on."
