Dadasaheb Phalke Award 2024: Mithun Chakraborty is set to receive the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award. Union Minister for Railways, Information and Broadcasting, Electronics, and IT, Ashwini Vaishnaw, announced the news on X. He noted that the veteran actor is being recognized for his exceptional cinematic journey and remarkable contributions to Indian cinema.

Mithun Chakraborty to receive Dadasaheb Phalke Award

“Mithun Da’s remarkable cinematic journey inspires generations! Honoured to announce that the Dadasaheb Phalke Selection Jury has decided to award legendary actor, Sh. Mithun Chakraborty Ji for his iconic contribution to Indian Cinema,” the tweet read. 

He also announced that the award will be presented to Mithun Chakraborty during the 70th National Film Awards ceremony, scheduled for October 8, 2024.

Mithun Chakraborty's film journey

Mithun Chakraborty made his Bollywood debut in 1976 with the film 'Mrigayaa', directed by Mrinal Sen, and won the National Film Award for Best Actor for his role. He became popular for his performance in the 1982 hit 'Disco Dancer', which was a big box-office success. The actor was also praised for his work in the 1990 film 'Agneepath'. In addition to acting, Mithun appears as a judge on various reality shows.

Earlier this year, he was honored with the Padma Bhushan, the third-highest civilian award in India, by the Government of India. Mithun Da also holds a record in the Limca Book of Records for having 19 film releases as a lead actor in a single year, a record that remains unbroken in Hindi cinema.

About Dadasaheb Phalke Award

The Dadasaheb Phalke Award is the highest honor in Indian cinema and is given each year at the National Film Awards ceremony. Winners receive a Swarna Kamal (Golden Lotus) medallion, a shawl, and a cash prize of Rs 1,000,000. The award started in 1969, and the first recipient was actress Devika Rani.
