Netflix’s Squid Game Renewed For Second Season, To Release In 2024

Netflix confirmed the Season 2 premiere later this year, and the news was announced in a letter to shareholders.

New Delhi: The highly anticipated second season of Netflix's South Korean masterpiece 'Squid Game' won't be postponed for another year. Netflix confirmed the Season 2 premiere later this year, and the news was announced in a letter to shareholders. In 2021, Hwang Dong Hyuk's survival drama became an instant hit.

Not only was Season 2 renewed due to the record viewership on the streamer, but Squid Game: The Challenge, a reality series on Netflix, was also inspired by the show.

As per Variety, updating the same Netflix wrote, “Looking ahead, despite last year’s strikes pushing back the launch of some titles, we have a big, bold slate for 2024. Audiences will be able to choose from hit returning dramas like The Diplomat S2, Bridgerton S3, Squid Game S2 and Empress S2."

There is still no word on the exact premiere date, but it has been reported that the K-drama with a survival theme will air by year's end. The series was given the go-ahead to be renewed at Netflix's 2022 fourth-quarter earnings call. The reality game spin-off on the streaming platform, Squid Game: The Challenge, followed suit, with a theme and format reminiscent of the fictional version for the first season.

Netflix has now added new actors for ‘Squid Game 2’ including Park Gyu-young (Sweet Home), Jo Yu-ri of Iz*One, Kang Ae-sim (Move to Heaven), Lee David (The Fortress and Svaha: The Sixth Finger), Lee Jin-uk (Miss Granny and Sweet Home), BigBang member Choi Seung-hyun (Tazza: The Hidden Card and Commitment), Roh Jae-won (Missing Yoon and Ditto), and Won Ji-an (Heartbeat).

Netflix has renewed a number of other shows, including unscripted series like Full Swing Season 2, F1: Drive to Survive Season 6, and Tour de France: Unchained Season 2. Apart from that, the new shows on the schedule include Avatar: The Last Airbender, Griselda (starring Sofia Vegara, which premieres this week), The Gentlemen (from Guy Ritchie), Eric (starring Benedict Cumberbatch), and Senna from Brazil.
