MAMAMOO Singer Hwasa Declared Not Guilty In Public Indecency Case

Hwasa was taken in as a suspect at the end of August when they questioned her about the intent of her dancing moves.

New Delhi: During one of her performances, Hwasa, a MAMAMOO member, was charged with public profanity, which prompted an official police investigation. A complaint was made by the Parents' Union Committee following the incident, which happened when she was taking part in a university festival and during which her dance moves were condemned. Hwasa was acquitted of the allegations on Wednesday.

Hwasa was taken in as a suspect at the end of August when they questioned her about the intent of her dancing moves and the setting of her performance.

According to Soompi, the Seongdong Police Station in Seoul, South Korea, which conducted the investigation into the public indecency case, stated, "In late September, we made a decision not to transfer MAMAMOO’s Hwasa, who was accused by the Student and Parents Human Rights Protection Coalition (KPA) on charges of public obscenity, resulting in no charges.”

“After summoning Hwasa as a defendant, investigating the content and development process of the performance [of that day], and comprehensively reviewing the statements of those involved, [we found it] difficult to acknowledge the criminal charges,” they added.

The incident happened on May 12 when Hwasa was performing as part of TVN's show 'Dancing Queens on the Road' at the Sungkyunkwan University Festival. Some viewers weren't pleased with the singer's performance of her single, 'Don't'. She was accused of making a provoking gesture during the performance, and some associations complained to the police after the performance. Additionally, they claimed that she offended the audience.

P Nation, Hwasa's company, responded to the police's decision by claiming to have received appropriate information and to be in the process of reviewing it. Regarding the outcome of the case, the agency has not yet made an official remark. Solar, Moonbyul, Wheein, and Hwasa are the four members that make up MAMAMOO.
