Karan Johar Responds To Twinkle Khanna Calling Him 'Sima Taparia Of Bollywood'
Filmmaker-producer Karan Johar or how Twinkle addressed him as Sima Taparia of Bollywood, shared how even his father and filmmaker Yash Johar had played a matchmaker for veteran actor Waheeda Rehman.
New Delhi: Karan Johar recently joined Twinkle Khanna for a chat session and opened up about playing cupid for many Bollywood couples and his celebrity-talk show 'Koffee With Karan'. Filmmaker-producer Karan Johar or how Twinkle addressed him as Sima Taparia of Bollywood, shared how even his father and filmmaker Yash Johar had played a matchmaker for veteran actor Waheeda Rehman.
Waheeda Rehman married Kamaljeet in 1974. Both actors met on the sets of 'Shagoon'(1964) and fell in love. The two now have two children, both of whom are writers.
During a conversation for Tweak India, Twinkle said to Karan Johar, “You are the Sima aunty of the movie business. You keep doing this matchmaking and your father did the same thing. When I was speaking to Waheeda Rahman, she mentioned that your father fixed up her marriage, it’s some genetic predisposition to get people together.”
Taking the compliment, Karan Johar added that it was he who introduced Siddharth Roy Kapur to Vidya Balan; both of whom have been happily married for 12 years now. He said, "take on the responsibility, like I have to do it. It just makes me very happy to do it. It’s like one of the agendas in my life. Vidya (Balan) called me the other day. It was her 12th anniversary, and I had introduced her to Siddharth Roy Kapoor. I was so touched by this call, more than any feedback for a film."
When asked if he could reveal about the recent matchmaking he has done, Karan refused to divulge details about the same. He said, "I don’t think they would like me to go public with that information. Contrary to public opinion, there’s a lot that I keep secret to myself."
Despite being a matchmaker for many others, Karan Johar continues to remain single. Recently, on a 'Koffee With Karan' episode he had revealed that he was in a relationship of which Varun Dhawan was very supportive. He stated he doesn't have anyone in his life and told Twinkle that he does not want to be accountable in the new phase of his life besides his mother Hiroo Johar and his two kids- Yash and Roohi.
Meanwhile, on the work front, Karan Johar has two upcoming films. One being 'Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani' starring Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Singh. The film will also feature veterans like Dharmendra, Jaya Bachchan and Shabana Azmi. The film is all set to be released in April next year.
Karan Johar also has 'Govinda Naam Mera' with Vicky Kaushal, Kiara Advani and Bhumi Pednekar. The film was announced only on Wednesday.
