Thalapathy Vijay, a celebrated South Indian superstar known for his impressive body of work in blockbuster films, is gearing up for the release of his highly anticipated film 'The Greatest Of All Time' (marketed as GOAT). Set to hit theaters worldwide on September 5, the film is directed by Venkat Prabhu and features an ensemble cast including Prashanth, Prabhu Deva, Mohan, and Jayaram in significant roles. Additionally, Vijayakanth is set to make a cameo appearance in the film, brought to life through AI technology.

How much did Thalapathy Vijay charge for G.O.A.T?

The film, which was officially announced in May 2023 under the working title Thalapathy 68, is the 25th production by the studio and is made on a lavish budget of Rs 300-400 crore. Earlier reports suggested that Thalapathy Vijay was being paid Rs 150 crore for his double role in the film.

However, producer Archana Kalpathi recently revealed in an interview with Galata that Vijay was actually paid a staggering Rs 200 crore for his role in 'The Greatest Of All Time', making him the highest-paid actor in India. This figure surpasses the earnings of Bollywood heavyweights such as Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, and Aamir Khan, as well as other South Indian stars like Prabhas, Allu Arjun, and Rajinikanth.

Vijay becomes highest paid Indian actor

Archana Kalpathi explained that Vijay’s astronomical fee reflects his immense box office appeal and his soaring market value over recent years. Vijay’s consistent success is evident, as just last year, his film Leo became his seventh consecutive film to cross the Rs 200 crore mark at the box office. His last seven films have collectively grossed over Rs 2000 crore, solidifying his status as a box office powerhouse.

The Greatest Of All Time has already proven to be a profitable venture, with the production recovering more than its budget through pre-release sales of satellite, digital, music, and theatrical rights. The film's trailer, released on August 17, set a new record as the most-watched Tamil film trailer within 24 hours, amassing 33 million views.
