Anurag Kashyap may be one of India's most celebrated directors but not many know that he wanted to be an actor. He has recently been seen making short cameos and taking up full-fledged roles in films. Looks like Kashyap's skills now have an international admirer.
If Anurag's 'Maharaja' director is to be believed, Nithilan Swaminathan shared that he received an offer to be a part of a project headed by the 'Birdman' fame Oscar-winning director Alejandro González Iñárritu. Best known for his winning back-to-back Best Director Academy awars for 'Birdman' and 'The Revenant', 'Iñárritu is currently directing a film starring Tom Cruise.
Anurag Kashyap in Iñárritu's upcoming film?
While there has been no official news or confirmation about the same by Kashyap or anyone else, this mere remark has set the internet talking. As per Hindu, Swaminathan shared the same at the Galatta Nakshatra Awards in Chennai, where he said, "I am a huge fan of Anurag sir. Recently, I went to Mumbai for his daughter’s wedding, and he told me Iñárritu offered him a role after watching Maharaja. When I heard it, I didn’t know how to react. I felt happy. I love him.”
For those unaware, 'Maharaja' stars Vijay Sethupathi in the lead role and Anurag Kashyap as the antagonist. The film was a big box office success when it was released in 2024. Filmed on a small budget of Rs. 20 cr, the film went on to make Rs. 200 cr worldwide. About Rs. 100 cr of the film's total income came from China. 'Maharaja' was also a huge success when it landed on Netflix but it found itself courting some controversy about its plot and themes.
