Influencer Slams Diljit Dosanjh For High Ticket Prices Of Dil-Luminati India Tour: 'Your Core Audience Doesn't Have The Money'

Diljit Dosanjh India tour: The tickets for the Indian leg of Punjabi singer Diljit Dosanjh's highly anticipated 'Dil-Luminati' tour were sold within minutes on Thursday, but the steep prices have sparked a wave of criticism. A Mumbai-based content creator Saumya Sahni shared a video on Friday expressing her discontent with the pricing, questioning the artist's decision to charge his Indian fans so much. 

Content creator slams Diljit Dosanjh for ticket prices

In her video, Saumya criticised the fact that ticket prices for Diljit's concerts in India ranged from ₹20,000 to ₹25,000, which she believes is too high for the average Indian fan.  

She said, "I might regret saying this later, but I absolutely have to ki ek Indian artiste ka koi haq nahi banta ki woh 20-25 hazar rupaye ek concert ke charge kare jab woh six cities play kar rahe hai. Woh teen sets play kar sakte hai. Kyunki aapke core audience ke paas paisa nahi hai, employment nahi hai, ek bohut hi limited means of entertainment hai. Bohot hi kam artistes hai joh iss desh ke liye, unki language mein perform kar pate hain. Aur uske baad ek middle-class insaan ka koi access nahi hai us artiste tak (No Indian artiste should charge ₹20-25 thousand for one concert in India when they are playing in so many cities. Your core audience doesn't have the money, they don't have jobs, and entertainment options are limited. There are very few artists who perform in our language for this country, and yet, middle-class people have no access to them)."

Saumya also pointed out the disparity between the earnings of artists from international shows and their home country, arguing that someone of Diljit's stature could have charged less for Indian fans. "It is very wild to me that an artiste jiska concert bachche bhi dekhne jaa sakte hain, ek middle class family dekhne jaa sakti thi... they make so much money overseas that they could exempt these things for the country. Like bahar artiste ke sau-dedh sau dollar ke ticket hote hain, ki bas utna hi jitna ek set up ke liye chahiye. Lollapalooza ke passes kitne kam ke hain eine bade lineup ke baad bhi (Kids and families could have gone for his concert. He makes so much money overseas. International artists charge around $100-150 for their shows, and yet we have to pay so much more. Look at Lollapalooza, with its massive lineup, but still, the passes are affordable).” 

In her video, Saumya added text that read, "₹15K for a concert? In this economy? In this country?" She also noted in her caption that her "2am thoughts are wildly class conscious," highlighting her awareness of the economic struggles many people face in India. 

Netizens react

Her comments have resonated with many on social media, who agreed with her stance. One Instagram user wrote, “This is actually quite a fair assessment. Nirvana as a band always ensured their ticket prices remained extremely low so that their ACTUAL fans could attend the concert and not just people who could afford it.” 

Another user wrote, “Agree. I recently attended cold play in Vienna. Guess what, the ticket costed 15k. Less than diljit's concert, which was soaring high at 20k. Doesn't make any sense.” 

“Diljit could easily sell out multiple stadium shows per city, but it seems like money has taken precedence over his fanbase,” another user remarked. 

About Dil-Luminati Tour India

The singer announced the Indian dates for his 'Dil-Luminati' tour earlier in September, and presale tickets went live on September 10. On Thursday, general sales began, and tickets were quickly sold out.  

Dil-Luminati Tour (India) will kick off at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Delhi on October 26, then move to Hyderabad on November 15, Ahmedabad on November 17, Lucknow on November 22, Pune on November 24, Kolkata on November 30, Bengaluru on December 6, Indore on December 8, and Chandigarh on December 14. The final stop will be in Guwahati on December 29.    

Diljit is currently on the Dil-Luminati tour, which has already taken him across the US, Canada, and Europe.
