Speaking to Deccan Talks with Asif, Sunita shared that her love story with Govinda began when she was just 15. “I held Govinda’s hand when I was 15. That childhood love is something else—we loved each other a lot,” she said. Despite her deep love for the Raja Babu actor, her father was against their union. “He didn’t even come to my wedding. He wanted me to marry a businessman from Holland. He knew how the film industry worked. But mera pyaar sacha tha (my love was true),” she added.

Addressing ongoing speculation, Sunita responded with emotion and strength: “I don’t know kis ki nazar lag gayi (who cast an evil eye on us). But I won’t let anyone take my husband away from me.”

Sunita also credited Govinda’s mother for supporting their marriage. “When I got married to Govinda, he was living with his big family, but I loved him. Even today, I am living in Govinda’s home because of my mother-in-law. She had told him, ‘Chichi, if you leave Sunita, you will become a beggar.’ I remember this dialogue,” she recalled.

On ups and downs in their marriage

In a previous interview with Hauterfly, Sunita reflected on the ups and downs in their 40-year-long marriage and candidly addressed the subject of infidelity. “Don’t ever say your partner is innocent. If he cheats, it will get so bad that even if you leave him, the other woman still won’t leave,” she said. Speaking from personal experience, she added, “Now it’s been 40 years. When it happened, I endured it.”

A few months ago, there were strong rumors of a divorce between the couple. However, Sunita dismissed the speculation at the time, reaffirming their commitment to each other.
