New Delhi: Amitabh Bachchan was born in Allahabad on October 11, 1942, to social activist Teji Bachchan and poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan. Bachchan made his cinematic debut in 1969 as a voice narrator in Mrinal Sen's National Award-winning film Bhuvan Shome. His debut acting role was as one of seven protagonists in the movie 'Saat Hindustani', directed by Khwaja Ahmad Abbas and starring Utpal Dutt, Anwar Ali, Madhu, and Jalal Agha.

The turning point of his career came with the film 'Zanjeer', after which he became known as the 'Angry Young Man' of Bollywood. There was no looking back after that and he became one of the finest actors in Hindi cinema, having acted in around 200 films.

Bachchan is well-known for his deep baritone. He has worked as a narrator, backing vocalist, and presenter for a variety of programmes. Apart from acting, Amitabh Bachchan is well-known for his writing and is a talented singer as well. Throughout his career, the actor has sung and recorded several songs.
