Animal Box Office Collection Day 1: Ranbir Kapoor's Film Beats 'Pathaan', Earns Rs 61 Crore On First Day
Animal Box Office Collection Day 1: Ranbir Kapoor-starrer has smashed domestic box office expectations despite initial backlash.
New Delhi: With much anticipation, Ranbir Kapoor’s ‘Animal’ debuted in cinemas on December 1. The Sandeep Reddy Vanga–directed film has surpassed Sunny Deol’s ‘Gadar 2’ and SRK’s ‘Pathaan’ to have the best opening collection in Indian cinematic history. Despite initial backlash, the film has managed to find an audience, following in the footsteps of Vanga’s earlier hit, ‘Kabir Singh’. Early estimates put the film's earnings in India at Rs 61 crore nett, according to industry tracker Sacnilk.
Trade expert Ramesh Bala estimates that the film would earn between Rs 110 and 115 crore worldwide on its first day. 'Animal' reportedly made Rs 61.00 crore in India on its first day of release.
Sacknilk reports that out of the film's total earnings, the Hindi version brought in Rs 50 crore, the Telugu version Rs 10, the Tamil version Rs 40 lakhs, the Kannada version Rs 9 lakhs, and the Malayalam version Rs 1 lakh. This brings the total to Rs 61 crore.
Ranbir Kapoor joins the ranks of Indian actors Shah Rukh Khan and Sunny Deol as the third actor in a calendar year to have an opening weekend gross of Rs 50 crore or more. 'Pathaan' and 'Gadar 2', two 2023 hits, had lower opening day box office receipts than ‘Animal’.
Being an A-rated film launching on a non-holiday, the movie saw a great start at the box office even with the competition of Vicky Kaushal’s ‘Sam Bahadur’. With ‘Animal’, Ranbir Kapoor became the first contemporary Hindi cinema superstar.
