Lok Sabha Polls 2024: Tamil Nadu Sees 63.20% Voter Turnout By 5 PM, Chennai Records Lowest Participation

The capital of Tamil Nadu, Chennai, saw the lowest voter turnout in the state during the Lok Sabha elections on Friday. According to the data available as of 5 PM, the state recorded a voter turnout of 63.20% across Tamil Nadu. Dharmapuri registered the highest turnout at 67.52%. In Chennai, by 5 PM, voter participation in Chennai North reached 59.16%, exceeding both Chennai Central at 57.25% and Chennai South at 57.04%, according to the Election Commission's data.
Even according to the voter turnout data at 3 PM, Chennai recorded the least voting across Tamil Nadu. In the first phase of elections on Friday, the state Chief Electoral Officer Satyabrata Sahoo said, "Till 3 PM, the voting percentage for the entire state is 51.41%. The highest percentage of voting has been noted in Dharmapuri at 57.86%. Namakkal comes second with 57.67% voting."
"Minimum voting has been reported in the three constituencies of Chennai. Chennai Central is at 41.47%, Chennai South is at 42.10%, Chennai North is at 44.84%. Voting is going on smoothly in all the places," he said.

Overall, Chennai has six Assembly constituencies with a total of 13,50, 161 voters. A key contest is anticipated in Chennai South, where DMK's Thamizhachi Thangapandian competes against AIADMK's Jayavardhan and BJP's Tamilisai Soundararajan.
Chennai Central constituency sees incumbent MP Dayanidhi Maran contesting against DMDK's Parthasarathy and BJP's Vinoj P Selvam. In Chennai North constituency, DMK's Kalanidhi Veeraswamy competes against AIADMK's Manoharan and BJP's RC Paul Kanagaraj.
