The Sagardighi Bypolls:
The three-time TMC MLA and state minister Subrata Saha's death in December of last year prompted a byelection for the Sagardighi assembly seat. The TMC, which has been holding the seat since 2011, triumphed in 2021 by a margin of about 50,000 votes, garnering more than 50 per cent of all votes cast, compared to the BJP's 24 per cent and the Congress-Left alliance's 19 per cent.
The main contenders were: Debashish Banerjee of the TMC, Dilip Saha of the BJP, and Bayron Biswas of the Congress.
The byelection to West Bengal's Sagardighi assembly constituency in Murshidabad district was peaceful, with more than 73 per cent of the 2.3 lakh voters exercising their rights on February 27.
