EC Directs Repolling In Barmer Lok Sabha Seat On May 8 After Breach Of Vote Confidentiality, Says Rajasthan CEO

Praveen Gupta, Chief Electoral Officer of Rajasthan stated that the Election Commission has directed repolling at Dudhwa Khurd village within Rajasthan's Barmer Lok Sabha constituency.

Repolling is scheduled to take place at a polling booth in Rajasthan's Barmer Lok Sabha constituency on May 8 due to a breach of vote confidentiality, as confirmed by an official on Monday. In response to this incident, four members of the polling party have been suspended.

Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Praveen Gupta stated that the Election Commission has directed repolling at a polling booth in Dudhwa Khurd village within Rajasthan's Barmer Lok Sabha constituency. The voting originally occurred during the second phase on April 26.

As per PTI, Gupta elaborated that the repolling will be conducted on Wednesday, May 8, from 7 am to 5 pm at polling center number 50, situated at the Government Higher Secondary School, Dudhwa Khurd booth of the Chauhtan assembly constituency.

The chief electoral officer assured that all necessary arrangements for repolling have been made in accordance with the directives of the Election Commission. Additionally, webcasting will be implemented at the polling station.

Gupta stated that the Rajasthani election department had proposed re-election to the Election Commission of India following a complaint about vote confidentiality being violated at this booth on election day.

District Collector Suspends Member Of Polling Team On April 26

According to the official, the district collector (district election officer) of Barmer has suspended four members of the polling team that conducted the voting on April 26 at this Chauhtan (Barmer) booth and is taking the appropriate legal action against the webcasting vendor's representative. "Action will be taken against them under the Representation of the People Act for violating the secrecy of voting," he added.

Previously, repolling was conducted at a polling station in the Ajmer Lok Sabha constituency on May 2.

Rajasthan encompasses a total of 25 Lok Sabha seats, with voting occurring for 12 seats in the first phase on April 19 and for 13 seats in the second phase on April 26.
