NEW DELHI: Amid the high-decibel poll campaigning for the sixth phase of the ongoing Lok Sabha elections, Congress President Rahul Gandhi in an exclusive conversation with ABP News spoke at length on a range of issues, including the Congress' minimum income guarantee scheme 'NYAY', controversy over the Rafale deal, demonetisation and the GST regime.
Gandhi also responded to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's repeated attacks on him during the electioneering for the crucial general elections. The Congress chief targeted the Modi government for its policies and also exuded confidence that his party-led coalition, the UPA, will return to power after elections.
The interview titled 'Rahul Gandhi, son of Rajiv Gandhi' will be aired on ABP News from 8 pm onwards. 'Nyay' is the acronym of its minimum income guarantee scheme -- Nyuntam Aay Yojana -- under which the party has promised to give Rs 72,000 per year to the 20 per cent of India's poorest. Gandhi's campaign also focused on the poor, unemployed youth, farmers' distress, women, Dalits, tribals and businessmen hit by the GST. In its manifesto, the Congress promised good governance, freedom from indebtedness to farmers, protecting existing jobs while creating new ones and implementing anti-corruption laws without bias. The seven-phase Lok Sabha elections started on April 11 and would conclude on May 19. Counting of votes will take place on May 23. So far, voting has been completed for five of the seven phases. Polling was held on Monday for 51 Lok Sabha seats spread across seven states in the fifth phase. In the first four phases, election was held to 91, 96, 117 and 72 seats on April 11, April 18, April 23, April 29 respectively.
