Punjab Election 2022: Farmers’ Body Sanyukt Samaj Morcha Allotted ‘Cot’ Election Symbol

Punjab Elections 2022: Sanyukt Samaj Morcha (SSM) on Friday said the Election Commission has allotted 'Cot' as the election symbol to the party for the upcoming Punjab Assembly polls.

New Delhi: In the latest development in politics, the spokesperson of Sanyukt Samaj Morcha (SSM) Ravneet Singh Brar on Friday said that the party will be represented by the 'Cot' symbol in the upcoming Punjab Assembly polls.

Ravneet took to his Twitter handle to share this update with a symbol of the party.

In Punjab, 22 farmer groups are all set to fight elections by forming a Sanyukt Samaj Morcha (SSM). The party is being led by Punjab's farmer leader Balbir Singh Rajewal.

After the declaration of the Election Commission of India's Model Code of Conduct, an application was made by the SSM for registration as a political party in the commission, but due to some technical problem, the application was sent back.

After getting the recognition of the Sanyukt Samaj Morcha (SSM) as a political party, SSM is undergoing preparation to contest the Assembly elections. However, all the candidates of the Morcha have filed their nominations as independent candidates.

On 12th December 2021, the Balbir-led party released its first list of 10 candidates. The list included the name of Balbir as the outfit's candidate for the Samrala assembly seat.

The list uncovered that farmer leader Prem Singh Bhangu will battle from Ghanaur, Harjinder Singh Tanda from Khadoor Sahib, Ravneet Singh Brar from Mohali, and Dr. Sukhmandeep Singh from Tarn Taran.

Also, Rajesh Kumar will fight from Kartarpur, Ajay Kumar from Phillaur, Ramandeep Singh from Jaiton, Balraj Singh from Qadian, and Dr. Navdeep Singh from Moga, it said.

Punjab will go to the polls on February 20. The date for the election was delayed from February 14 to February 20 after a request from the ruling government considering the Coronavirus circumstance in the state.

The Sanyukt Samaj Morcha was established after the farmers’ fights that ended toward the beginning of December 2021. Prior, there were speculations of SSM challenging Punjab polls in alliance with the Aam Aadmi Party. However, Rajewal has clarified that there will be no alliance.
