'Time For New Generation To...': BJP's Yashodhara Raje Scindia Says She Won't Contest Election From MP's Shivpuri

Madhya Pradesh Elections 2023: Yashodhara Raje Scindia has said that she will not contest elections from the Shivpuri Assembly seat.

Ahead of the assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh, state Bharatiya Janata Party leader Yashodhara Raje Scindia has said that she will not contest elections from the Shivpuri Assembly seat.

While addressing the people at Shivpuri, Yashodhara Raje Scindia said that the time has come for the new generation to come forward. She also thanked the people of Shivpuri. "The time passes for a new generation to come forward. I want to thank all the people of Shivpuri who stayed with me in all the challenges," Yashodhara said, as quoted by the news agency ANI.

Scindia also stated that she had resolved earlier that she was not going to contest elections, and in a way, this is her 'goodbye'. This announcement came as Madhya Pradesh is slated to go to polls later this year.

"I had resolved earlier that I was not going to contest elections. Along with everyone, I want to thank you all, in a way this is my 'goodbye'. I have always tried to follow the footsteps of my mother, Rajmata Raje Scindia. It was with her inspiration that I took this decision, and today I pray to all of you that you all will support me in this decision," Yashodhara Raje Scindia said, as quoted by ANI.

Last month, BJP state chief VD Sharma confirmed that Scindia informed the party that she does not wish to contest the upcoming state assembly polls due to health issues. “Yashodhara Raje Scindia is our senior leader. Due to her health issues, she has requested the organisation that she does not want to contest elections this time. The organisation will take appropriate decisions on this,” Sharma told reporters in Bhopal, as quoted by ANI.

Scindia has said only due to health issues that she does not wish to contest elections, Sharma said. “It is a personal issue of Scinda. In reality, she wants to take rest after the problems she faced due to being affected by COVID-19 for four times. That's why she has requested the party,” the BJP leader added.
